A Moscow-bound EgyptAir plane returned to Cairo airport on Wednesday after a threatening note was found on one of the aircraft’s seats, the airline said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“An official source at Egyptair confirmed that flight 729, operated by an Airbus A220-300, returned to Cairo airport because of a threatening message written by an unknown person that was found on one of the plane’s seats,” the company said in a brief statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that the competent authorities “are taking the necessary measures,” without giving further details about what happened or the content of the message, EFE reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred six years after an Airbus A321 of the Russian airline Kogalymavia, flying from Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) to St. Petersburg (Russia), was bombed and all its passengers and crew were killed, in one of the worst catastrophes in the history of Russian aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years later, both countries agreed to resume flights to Cairo and only last August direct flights to the Red Sea tourist destinations of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada were resumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
