Mexican authorities released the current chairman of Interjet’s<\/strong> board of directors, Alejandro del Valle, from prison for more than two months for alleged fraud in the midst of the airline’s crisis, which has been inoperative for a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today is a great day for the Del Valle family. After a great process of more than two and a half months, my father flew a few hours ago to his home in Houston,” reported his son Carlos del Valle, who is also Interjet’s CEO, in a video message released early Thursday morning, EFE reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Investigation Police (PDI) of Mexico City had arrested Alejandro del Valle on September 9 at the Club de Industriales “for his probable participation in the commission of the crime of generic fraud”, although they did not detail the amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His son Carlos did not specify why his father, who remained in the Reclusorio Sur of the Mexican capital, was released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last December, Interjet’s General Shareholders’ Meeting appointed Del Valle as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, thus displacing Miguel Alem\u00e1n Magnani, the airline’s founder, who is now a fugitive from justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation of Interjet, which has not been operating since December 2020 and is facing a strike, has caused controversy since last year, when the association Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) reported that it owed more than 3 billion pesos (about US$140.3 million) to the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just last August, Interpol issued a red notice for the capture of Alem\u00e1n Magnani, accused of tax fraud for 66 million pesos (3.09 million dollars) by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos del Valle has also informed that Interjet’s plan is to restart operations of the airline, which was one of Mexico’s top four airlines, next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the company’s resurgence, the executive has proposed to operate initially with only 10 aircraft and flights from three airports: Mexico City International Airport, Toluca Airport in the State of Mexico and the new Santa Lucia Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will continue with all the projects we have. Mexico needs us, we will continue to fight for this great company, Interjet, that we have with so many colleagues who need this company to rise up,” concluded the CEO in his video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
