Kennedy Airport (JFK), the largest airport in the city and among the largest in the world, which will cost some $9.5 billion and will be operational in its first phase by 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/12\/miami-airport-recorded-its-busiest-day-ever.html\">Miami Airport recorded its busiest day ever in November.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new structure, to be called New Terminal 1, will be 223,000 square meters in size and will be built on what are now terminals 1 and 2, considered obsolete, plus the abandoned space of what was once terminal 3, which was later demolished, EFE reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, the project will require an investment of US$9.5 billion and will employ some 10,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Terminal 1 will have 23 gates, which will open progressively from 2026 to 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/12\/san-andres-recovers-95-air-operations.html\">San Andres recovers 95% of air operations and opens first direct flight to U.S<\/a><\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/12\/san-andres-recovers-95-air-operations.html\">.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not the only major project at JFK: Terminals 4, 5, 6 and 8 (to be built over the existing Terminal 7) are currently being expanded or are about to be expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JFK is considered one of the economic engines of the New York region: it employs 300,000 people, pays $16.2 billion a year in wages and generates $45.7 billion a year in sales.
