{"id":119810,"date":"2021-12-16T13:50:18","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T13:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=119810"},"modified":"2021-12-16T13:50:35","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T13:50:35","slug":"airbus-delivers-last-a380-to-emirates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2021\/12\/airbus-delivers-last-a380-to-emirates.html","title":{"rendered":"End of an era: Airbus delivers last A380 to Emirates."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/en?s=airbus\">Airbus<\/a><\/strong> is set to deliver the final <strong>A380<\/strong> superjumbo to Dubai\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/en?s=emirates\">Emirates<\/a><\/strong> on Thursday, marking the end of a 14-year run that gave Europe an instantly recognised symbol across the globe but failed to fulfil the commercial vision of its designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/12\/acj-twotwenty-completes-first-flight.html\">ACJ TwoTwenty completes first flight.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Production of the world\u2019s largest airliner has ended after 272 were built compared with the 1,000 or more once predicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday\u2019s handover is expected to be low key, partly because of COVID restrictions and also because Airbus is these days focusing its PR on environmental benefits of smaller jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s in stark contrast to the spectacular light show that revealed the new behemoth in front of European leaders in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2021\/12\/singapore-airlines-signs-agreement-to-acquire-a350f.html\">Singapore Airlines signs agreement to acquire seven Airbus A350F.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emirates is by far the largest buyer and still believes in the superjumbo\u2019s ability to lure passengers. Even though no more A380s will be built, it will keep flying them for years. Many airlines disagree and have axed the A380 during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airline president Tim Clark refuses to bow to sceptics who say the days of spacious four-engined jets like the A380 are numbered as an airline seat becomes a commodity like any other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t share that view at all \u2026 And I still believe there is a place for the A380,\u201d Clark
