Major U.S. airlines canceled hundreds of flights again Monday for the fourth consecutive day in the face of the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, reported the U.S. company Flight Aware, which specializes in providing real-time flight data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 09.15 local time on the East Coast of the United States, 810 flights to or from the North American country had been suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is less than the 1,517 flights grounded yesterday. On Christmas Saturday, another 1,000 aircraft bound for or departing from the United States also failed to take off, and on Christmas Eve Friday, 700 aircraft remained in hangars, according to Flight Aware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worldwide, 2,327 routes have been suspended so far on Monday, while 5,852 have been delayed, reported EFE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines have asked their travelers to check websites and apps for flight information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United acknowledged that the increase in U.S. infections is having a “direct impact” on flight crews and other airline personnel, who have to stay home to recover from the illness and not infect others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, several airlines petitioned the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that the quarantine for vaccinated pilots who become infected with coronavirus could be reduced from 10 days to 5 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the CDC, the omicron variant has already become the predominant variant in the United States, accounting for 73.2% of new cases between December 12 and 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
