Lufthansa<\/strong> has no plans to take a majority stake in Alitalia\u2019s successor ITA Airways<\/strong>, the German airline\u2019s CEO said on Thursday, telling investors not to worry about his pursuit of a business that racked up years of losses before its relaunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 Lufthansa offers more than 50 additional flights from Frankfurt and Munich at Easter.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa has teamed up with shipping group MSC to express an interest in ITA and could soon be given access to its books after the Italian government detailed ways to sell the slimmed down airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSC has said it would take a majority stake in ITA, with Lufthansa as a junior partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked whether Lufthansa wanted a majority stake in ITA, CEO Carsten Spohr said that was \u201cfar away\u201d from its intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 Ryanair recommended Lufthansa to reduce \u201cghost flights\u201d.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the German airline would look carefully at ITA\u2019s finances, referring to Alitalia\u2019s years of losses and failed attempts to clinch an alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know what we are doing in Italy, no worry,\u201d said Spohr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hear my shareholders – don\u2019t worry we know there is a legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief executive met MSC\u2019s Italian owners – the Aponte family – in person as he regarded this as crucial for a common project of this size, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
