Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport handled 1,067,733 passengers during the month of February, representing an additional 691,551 passengers compared to the same period in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This figure represents a significant increase in passenger movement compared to last year, despite the appearance of the Omicron variant to which was added the cancellation of flights due to the persistence of extreme weather conditions in the northern hemisphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“2022 will be a pivotal year for the airline industry. The easing of mobility restrictions, the global advance of vaccination and the recovery of travel confidence will sustain a robust pace of recovery, after two difficult years for the air transport industry,” said Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Destinations and Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data provided by the company’s Statistics Department, in February Tocumen maintained its direct connections to 76 destinations, through 19 airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger traffic through Tocumen during the month of February 2022 was headed by users from South America, which represented 45%, North America 29%, the Caribbean 11%, Central America 10%, and Europe 5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 Anchorage airport (Alaska) is rated best located in the world.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the month of February 2022, 9,727 aircraft arrived and took off. Of the total passengers that used the Tocumen terminal, 74% were connecting passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional terminals and cargo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cargo terminal handled 18,540 metric tons of cargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domestic traffic and charter flights from Canada, in the regional terminals managed by Tocumen International Airport, registered 16,551 passengers and 1,361 aircraft operations in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New airlines and destinations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of March 27, the Lufthansa Group restarts operations from Tocumen International Airport through Eurowings Discover, while in June Copa Airlines announces the start of operations to new destinations in Colombia and Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening of Terminal 2, Col\u00f3n and Panam\u00e1 Pac\u00edfico<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the economic reactivation plan led by President Laurentino Cortizo, the first four months of this year will see the full opening of operations at the new Terminal 2 of Tocumen, the reopening of the Panama Pacifico Terminal for low-cost airlines and the start of operations at the Enrique Jimenez terminal in Colon with direct charter flights from the Caribbean for tourism and shopping in the Free Zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
