Air New Zealand<\/strong> reported Wednesday that it has begun selling tickets for its new route between Auckland and New York, which will begin operating from Sept. 17 and will take more than 17 hours southbound and be among the longest nonstop flights in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company had planned to start the route in 2020, but then the pandemic hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline said it will operate the Auckland-New York route three times a week, year-round, on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Now for the first time, New Zealanders can visit the Big Apple on a non-stop flight,” said Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran. The United States has always been a key market for us, and this new route cements our commitment to developing the growing tourism opportunities between the two countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Traditionally, flight numbers 1 and 2 are used for an airline’s flagship route. And that’s what New York will be: our flagship route.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have worked very hard over the last few years to make this ultra-long-haul service a reality, which is one of the longest routes in the world, at just over 16 hours northbound and 17.5 hours southbound. To make sure customers arrive in New York feeling refreshed, we’ve put a lot of thought into the onboard experience and the teams are working tirelessly to make sure it’s a great flying experience,” Foran added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 LATAM Airlines will resume flights to Australia and New Zealand.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a stopover in New York, customers wishing to travel further afield, Air New Zealand’s strong partnership with United Airlines can connect them to domestic destinations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new service will also offer travelers more options as Air New Zealand offers seven destinations in North America: Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and, soon, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
