The British government on Thursday announced new sanctions against major Russian airlines banning them from reselling their slots in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aeroflot, Ural Airlines and Rossiya Airlines will not be allowed to sell their slots – which they are no longer allowed to use at British airports – worth an estimated \u00a350 million ($62 million), it said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As long as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues his barbaric attack on Ukraine, we will continue to target the Russian economy,” British chief diplomat Liz Truss said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UK had already closed its airspace to Russian aircraft shortly after the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, as well as its ports to Russian ships, and had banned the export of goods and technology to the Russian aviation sector, AFP reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new sanctions come as the UK assumes the chairmanship of the International Transport Forum, an intergovernmental organization of the OECD, where it intends to “call for a united response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
