The Argentine government immobilized at Ezeiza international airport a Venezuelan plane sanctioned by the United States and withheld the passports of five Iranian crew members, official sources confirmed on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fact became known as a result of a request for reports to the Executive Branch submitted on Friday by Deputy Gerardo Milman, of the main opposition coalition Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change), according to EFE<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the deputy, it is a Boeing 747-3B3(M) aircraft, in cargo configuration, registration number YV3531, which was owned by the Iranian company Mahan Air, sanctioned by the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last January, the ownership of the aircraft would have been transferred to Emtrasur Cargo<\/strong>, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state-owned company Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeron\u00e1uticas y Servicios A\u00e9reos (Conviasa)<\/strong>, also sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury, as described in the request for information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Monday, the plane coming from Mexico and bound for the Argentine international airport of Ezeiza, in the province of Buenos Aires, could not land at its destination airport and had to go to the airport of Cordoba (center), and then take off again in the afternoon to complete its flight to Ezeiza, according to the same source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Wednesday it took off from Ezeiza international airport and, after flying over the Rio de la Plata for 20 minutes, landed again at the Argentine airport, because, according to the local press, the plane tried to travel to Uruguay to refuel and be able to return to Venezuela, but the Uruguayan government closed its airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the deputy, the crew with which it landed in C\u00f3rdoba was also composed of at least nine crew members of Venezuelan nationality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
