Aena<\/strong>, through its subsidiary Aena Desarrollo Internacional, has been awarded in a public auction the concession of 11 airports in Brazil, located in four states (S\u00e3o Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Par\u00e1) for a period of 30 years , with the possibility of five more years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largest of them, Congonhas Airport, is the second busiest in Brazil. It is located in the State of S\u00e3o Paulo, an area of 248,219 km\u00b2, approximately 50% of Spain, and its population is 46.3 million inhabitants, similar to that of Spain or Argentina, twice that of Chile or four times that of Portugal. These population data offer a huge catchment area. In addition, S\u00e3o Paulo is the largest financial center in Latin America and Brazil, the largest economy in the region and the ninth in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding this operation, which is the most important in the international field carried out to date by Aena, the president and CEO of the airport manager, Maurici Lucena, recalled that “the company’s priority is always to generate value for its shareholders, public and private, and for workers\u201d and that, \u201cdespite the hard times we have gone through due to COVID-19, we are convinced that the internationalization of Aena is a guarantee of the future for the company\u201d. He has highlighted that domestic traffic in Brazil is 100% recovered after the pandemic and, therefore, has concluded: “Brazil’s potential is indisputable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group of 11 airports registered a total of 26.8 million passengers in 2019, 12% of the country’s air traffic in that year. Congonhas-S\u00e3o Paulo is the busiest, with 22.8 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award of the group of 11 airports is the largest international development operation in the history of Aena, which, under the Aena Brasil brand, has 100% managed six other airports in the Northeast of the country since 2020 and has a presence in the United Kingdom, where it manages to 51% the London-Luton airport, and in Mexico, Colombia and Jamaica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
