Aena<\/strong> network airports closed August 2022 with 27,301,674 passengers. This figure is within 7.4 percentage points of pre-pandemic levels, so 92.6% of the traffic recorded in August 2019 has already been recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, 223,260 aircraft were operated, representing a 95.1% recovery over 2019; and 78,468 tons of cargo were moved, representing a 6.3% decrease over the same month in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the total number of passengers registered in August, 27,236,102 corresponded to commercial passengers, of which 18,429,626 traveled on international flights, 12.7% less than in August 2019; and 8,806,476 traveled on domestic flights, 6.3% more than before the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cumulatively through the eighth month of 2022, a recovery of 85.3% in passenger traffic is achieved compared to the same period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From January to August 2022, 159,308,824 passengers have passed through the airports of the Aena network, 1,477,464 aircraft movements were recorded (7.7% less than in 2019) and 651,950 tons of cargo were transported, which is 3% less than in the same period of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the eighth month of the year with 4,985,968, representing a decrease of 13.9% over August 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport, with 4,464,875 (-17.5% compared to 2019); Palma de Mallorca, with 4,161,847 (-2.8%); M\u00e1laga-Costa del Sol, with 2,053. 341 (-6.9%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez, with 1,512,008 passengers (-10.6%); Ibiza, 1,361,379 (-1.1%); and Gran Canaria, with 1,090,494 passengers, an increase of 0.8% over the same month of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of the number of operations, the airport that reached the highest number of movements in August was Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 31,575 (-15% over 2019), followed by Palma de Mallorca, with 28,838 (+0.2%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 27. 779 flights (-15%); M\u00e1laga-Costa del Sol, with 15,159 (-3.1%); Ibiza, with 12,827 (+4.6%); Gran Canaria, with 9,910 (-6.6%); and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez, with 9,795 movements, representing a decrease of 8.9% over the same month of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cargo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding cargo traffic, the airport that recorded the highest cargo volume during August was Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas, with 43,511 tons, down 1.9% compared to the same month in 2019. It was followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which recorded 13,324 tons (+1% compared to 2019); Zaragoza, with 10,058 tons (-35.6%), and Vitoria, with 5,423 tons, which translates into 31.9% more than in the same month of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
