The strike by pilots and cabin crew in Brazil, who intend to work two hours a day for an indefinite period of time, delayed on Monday, on its first day, about twenty flights in the country’s main airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilots and cabin crew paralyzed their activities between 6:00 and 8:00 local time at the airports of eight of the largest Brazilian cities, as part of a strike with which they are demanding wage increases and better working conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strike caused delays to several flights and the cancellation of others, but did not generate long lines of passengers at the air terminals due to a court decision that forced the Brazilian Airline Union to keep 90% of its personnel operating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid apparent normality at the airports, groups of strikers staged small protests at the terminals in defense of their demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Managers at S\u00e3o Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, the busiest airport in the country and the one most affected by the stoppage, had to delay a dozen flights departing from Brazil’s largest city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Congonhas, Sao Paulo’s terminal for regional flights, 16 flights had to be delayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among Rio de Janeiro’s airports, Galeao delayed three flights and Santos Dumond cancelled two and delayed five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strike also affected flights from the cities of Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Fortaleza and Campinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the concessionaires managing the airports affected by the strike, the situation was already normalized one hour after the end of the stoppage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilots demand that their salaries be corrected for last year’s inflation, about 8 %, and that they be granted an additional real increase of 5 %.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strikers are also demanding that their rest days be respected, as well as an increase in the hours they can rest between flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilots and cabin crew are threatening to maintain their two-hour daily strike until they reach an agreement with the employers’ union, reported EFE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
