The Mexican regional airline Aeromar<\/strong> announced on Wednesday the definitive termination of its operations, after 35 years of uninterrupted flights in Mexico, the United States and Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decision responds to a series of financial problems the airline was going through, as well as the difficulty of closing agreements with viable conditions that would allow Aeromar to ensure its operations in the long term. The company’s team made profound financial adjustments to improve its situation; however, in an adverse environment, aggravated during the COVID19 pandemic, the measures taken were not enough to stabilize the company’s situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the past four years, federal authorities have worked in strict coordination with Aeromar, which has received the company’s audited financial information and has approved, together with Aeromar, payments to personnel, suppliers and corresponding authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of February 15, 2023, Aeromar will stop flying to and from Mexico City, Acapulco, Aguascalientes, Cancun, Chetumal, Ciudad Victoria, Colima, Cozumel, Guadalajara, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Ixtepec, Mazatlan, Merida, Monterrey, Piedras Negras, Puerto Escondido, Puebla, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic and Villahermosa, in Mexico; Havana, Cuba; and Laredo, Texas, and McAllen, Texas, in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to making this decision, the Mexican airline made every effort to preserve the source of employment for the nearly 700 employees and their families. As a result, despite the financial difficulties experienced, the base salaries for the last year of each of the employees were paid in full, with the partial payment of some salary-related items pending, which at that time were in the process of being paid through agreements. The Secretary of Labor has constantly followed up on the labor situation of the entire team and, to date, is aware of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding travelers who have tickets to fly with Aeromar, information will be issued once alternatives are available in agreement with the competent authorities, who are aware of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aeromar entered the market on November 7, 1987, standing out for its commitment to regional connectivity and full operational safety in the air service in the 21 domestic and 3 international destinations it covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
