approves WestJet&#8217;s purchase of Sunwing Airlines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Canada\u2019s government said on Friday it approved airline <strong>WestJet Group\u2019s<\/strong> acquisition of rival <strong>Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations<\/strong>, subject to strict terms and conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those terms include requirements to maintain capacity on routes most affected by the merger and improving baggage handling for better passenger experience, Transport Canada, the country\u2019s aviation regulator, said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2023\/02\/air-canada-and-united-to-offer-more-than-260-daily-transborder-flights.html\">Air Canada and United to offer more than 260 daily transborder flights this summer<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are pleased that the regulatory review of the transaction is now complete,&#8221; said Angela Avery, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief People, Corporate &amp; Sustainability Officer. &#8220;We thank the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner of Competition, and the staff of Transport Canada, the Competition Bureau, and the
