{"id":139607,"date":"2023-05-18T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=139607"},"modified":"2023-05-19T00:36:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-19T00:36:01","slug":"westjet-group-cancels-flights-ahead-of-impending-pilot-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2023\/05\/westjet-group-cancels-flights-ahead-of-impending-pilot-strike.html","title":{"rendered":"WestJet Group cancels flights ahead of impending pilot strike"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WestJet Group<\/strong> announced Thursday that it will cancel flights in anticipation of an impending strike by WestJet and Swoop pilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This action ensures that the airline can avoid abandoning aircraft in remote locations without support and allows for proactive communication with passengers and crew to minimize the possibility of being stranded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2023\/05\/westjet-announces-new-direct-route-between-winnipeg-and-atlanta.html\">WestJet announces new direct route between Winnipeg and Atlanta<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely disheartened to find ourselves in a place where we have to activate our contingency plan and subsequent takedown of our network as a result of the strike notice served by ALPA and their inability to accept a reasonable offer. We deeply regret the disruption this will have on the travel plans of our guests and the communities and businesses that rely on our critical air service,\u201d said Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer, the WestJet Group. \u201cWe remain at a critical impasse with the union and have been left with no choice but to begin taking the painful steps of preparing for the reality of a work stoppage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that a tentative agreement has not yet been reached, the WestJet Group is parking the majority of its 737 and 787 fleet, in a measured, phased and safe approach. WestJet Encore, WestJet Link as well as limited 737 flights will continue to operate during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe remain at the bargaining table, unequivocally committed to achieving a deal as soon as possible, but are equally ready to weather labour action for as long as it takes to arrive at a reasonable outcome,\u201d continued von Hoensbroech. \u201cAny guest impact is too high of a cost in the wake of these negotiations and we sincerely apologize that valued guests were caught in the middle of an avoidable conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"
