LATAM Airlines <\/strong>announced the return of its daily flights to and from Rapa Nui, after almost four years. The route, which exceeds 3,700 kilometers in distance, is now available Monday through Sunday and will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft, with a capacity to carry 300 passengers per leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with announcing the return of daily operations, LATAM renewed and extended an agreement with the Municipality of Rapa Nui to transport up to 300 tons of waste per year free of charge for proper management and recycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 Passengers carried by LATAM to international destinations grew 44% in August<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The measure seeks to reinforce a commitment that LATAM has had for almost 10 years with the Municipality of Rapa Nui, which has allowed them to transport more than 1,500 tons of waste free of charge from the island to Santiago de Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For LATAM it is a source of pride and a great responsibility to be able to connect one of the most isolated places on the planet with our continent. The return of our daily operation will allow us to transport up to 4,200 passengers a week and support the tourist vocation of the island and its inhabitants, promoting the economic development of its community and reinforcing our commitment to the development of a more sustainable tourism,” says Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be recalled that with the arrival of the pandemic, and being one of the most isolated territories in the world, Rapa Nui had to close its doors to tourism and LATAM stopped operating commercial flights until August last year, when it resumed operations with two flights a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
