London Heathrow Airport<\/strong> revealed Thursday that passenger numbers increased by 29% last year to 79.2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the airfield said that during December 2023 it recorded its busiest stage of the past year, with 6.7 million passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This upturn comes after the Spanish company Ferrovial – which held 25% of the share capital of FGP Topco, parent company of Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd – sold its stake for 2.735 billion euros (\u00a32.368 billion) last November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at 2023 as a whole, Heathrow indicated that the Asia\/Pacific market saw the largest increase in the number of travelers, with a 76% increase compared to 2022 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was due to the lifting of travel restrictions imposed until then to curb the spread of the coronavirus in that region, his note explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some 1.4 million tons of cargo were transported through the airport last year, which was 2% more than in the previous year, according to the data released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As we move into the new year, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our entire team, Heathrow colleagues and our partners for their hard and successful work throughout the busy festive period, which has gone very well in terms of services and operations,” noted the airport’s CEO, Thomas Woldbye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other data released, Heathrow also revealed that around 216,000 passengers used the airport daily last month and that December 22 was the busiest day of the entire Christmas period, accounting for 250,000 travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terminal 5 was the busiest Terminal 5 in 2023 for the second year since its opening 15 years ago, with more than 33 million passengers, and where 2.6 million travelers were recorded last December alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The note recalls Heathrow’s position as the fourth busiest airport globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
