{"id":147157,"date":"2024-01-17T14:00:39","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T14:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=147157"},"modified":"2024-01-18T00:00:05","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T00:00:05","slug":"former-flight-attendant-named-president-of-japan-airlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2024\/01\/former-flight-attendant-named-president-of-japan-airlines.html","title":{"rendered":"Former flight attendant named president of Japan Airlines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Japan Airlines<\/strong> named its first female president on Wednesday, a former cabin attendant who rose through the ranks to senior management, taking a deeply symbolic step in a country struggling to close a vast gender gap at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mitsuko Tottori, a senior managing executive officer who joined JAL in 1985, the year it suffered one of the worst crashes in airline history, will become president from April 1, it said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u2192 <a href=\"https:\/en\/2023\/12\/japan-airlines-takes-delivery-of-its-first-airbus-a350-1000.html\">Japan Airlines takes delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appointment comes as Japanese companies face increasing pressure to boost gender diversity and tackle a gender pay, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/japan-airlines-says-board-member-tottori-become-president-2024-01-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Reuters<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There are female employees out there who are struggling with their career steps or going through big life events,&#8221; Tottori told a news conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I hope my appointment as a president can encourage them, or give them the courage to take the next step.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change comes as the airline seeks to recover from the pandemic-era downturn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JAL has set itself a target for women to make up 30% of managers across the group by the end of the fiscal year to March 2026.
