Tocumen International Airport, which serves Panama City, set a passenger record in 2023 by handling 17,825,465 passengers, surpassing the all-time high of 16,582,601 passengers recorded in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The performance in 2023 is the result of the confidence of the airlines that have increased their frequencies and destinations, the support we have given them and the guarantees of safe and punctual operations. These facts strengthen Panama’s reputation and relevance as the main transit and regional connectivity point for passengers and cargo,” said Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2192 London Heathrow Airport increased passenger numbers by 29% in 2023<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data provided by the Tocumen Airport Statistics Department, in December 1,606,558 passengers moved through the terminal area. The markets with the greatest regional movement through the Panama hub in the last month of the year were South America with 44%, followed by North America with 30%, the Caribbean 11%, while Central America contributed 11%, and the European markets contributed with a participation of 4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of 2023, the airport will be served by 31 airlines, 15 cargo and 16 passenger airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Destinations and Markets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In terms of international connections, in December Tocumen maintained direct routes to 87 destinations, through 16 commercial airlines that offer services to the main cities in the Americas and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results indicate that during 2023, 71% of the total number of passengers using the Tocumen terminal were connecting passengers. In addition, 143,034 aircraft operations were handled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the most visited cities through Tocumen during 2023 are Miami, Bogota, Medellin, San Jose, Punta Cana, Cancun, Orlando, Sao Paulo, Lima and Guayaquil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cargo Terminal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The cargo terminal mobilized 20,395 metric tons during the month of December, for an annual total of 208,573 tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
