Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport<\/strong> is the first air terminal in the world to receive the Leed Zero Energy certification, awarded by the United States Sustainable Building Council (USGBC), for its effectiveness in implementing sustainable practices in its operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This recognition highlights the good management and operation of the airport’s buildings, which have achieved high energy efficiency standards that offset the consumption of energy from conventional sources with the consumption of alternative energy sources for a period of 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are proud to be the first airport in the world to receive this recognition, which is the result of our strong commitment to sustainability. We have been implementing practices for several years to achieve energy efficiency appropriate to the operation and the generation of renewable energy. We will continue working with the same commitment and dedication to have a better planet,” said Natal\u00ed Leal, General Manager of Opain, concessionaire of El Dorado Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, El Dorado became the first airport in the world to achieve LEED for Existing Buildings: Operation and Maintenance EB:O+M v4.1 at the platinum level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opain emphasized that the efforts made in this recognition are in addition to those made by the airport in terms of sustainability, such as returning excellent quality water to the Bogot\u00e1 River, recycling 100% of the rainwater from its roofs, and giving a second use to 80% of the waste generated in the airport’s terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
