Lufthansa<\/strong> cabin crew strike called for Tuesday at Frankfurt airport and Wednesday at Munich airport by the UFO union will affect about 1,000 flights and 120,000 passengers in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a spokesman for the German company, some 600 flights will be cancelled at Frankfurt airport, the country’s main airport, and some 400 at the Bavarian capital, meaning that 70,000 travelers at the former and 50,000 at the latter will not be able to travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 18,000 Lufthansa cabin crew and 900 from Munich-based subsidiary Cityline will join the two-day strike from 03.00 GMT this Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frankfurt airport management asked in a notice on its website for travelers to check flight status before arriving at the airfield, and warned of “delays in operations and flight cancellations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Airport also noted that there will be adjustments to the flight schedule and that affected passengers will be informed by Lufhansa on how to proceed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strike has been called after two ballots last Wednesday of UFO members at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline “ended with a very clear result and management continues to refuse to respond adequately to our wage demands,” the union says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Thursday, the consortium announced a record net profit of almost 1.7 billion euros, the third best in the group’s history, recalled UFO’s chairman of the board, Joachim V\u00e1zquez B\u00fcrger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Precisely in this context, our demands seem appropriate and fair to us. The cabin crew must also share in this success and the concessions made during the coronavirus crisis must be sufficiently compensated,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Saturday marked the end of another two-day strike called by the ver.di union of around 25,000 Lufthansa ground staff, which forced the airline to cancel between 80% and 90% of its flights, EFE reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
