Volotea<\/strong> reported Tuesday that it obtained full approval of its Safety Management System (SMS) from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This approval is an exceptional achievement for the company, which has made a considerable effort to become the first scheduled airline to obtain this certification before the deadline set by the new EASA regulations, set for the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up to now, the certification only allowed the monitoring of operations and maintenance management performed by third parties via SMS. Now, and in accordance with the provisions of Annex 145 of the European regulation, the airline has extended the spectrum to include comprehensive maintenance management, i.e. also including its own maintenance. This extension further consolidates safety and quality standards in all Volotea operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volotea currently has a team of 42 highly trained and certified aeronautical mechanics, who meet the strictest industry standards and whose priority is operational excellence and flight safety. They are located at Volotea bases in Bilbao (5), Asturias (12), Verona (13), Finkenwerder (1) and Venice (11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obtaining comprehensive SMS certification not only strengthens Volotea’s commitment to aviation safety, but also presents a number of significant improvements for the airline and its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
