Air Europa’s <\/strong>route connecting Madrid and Panama celebrates its fifth anniversary and faces an optimistic future after a first half of the year marked by good results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the company started its flights to Panama in 2019, it has moved more than 450,000 passengers. It currently has six weekly frequencies between Tocumen International Airport and Madrid-Barajas. For this fiscal year, expectations and the evolution of activity allow us to anticipate that 2024 will be the year with the highest number of customers transported to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, the airline maintains the code-sharing agreement with Copa Airlines that it started since the beginning of its activity in the Central American country to promote connecting flights departing from or arriving to the regional hub in Tocumen. The importance of the alliance for channeling passengers to or from countries in the area, such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, at certain times of the year accounts for 40% of the occupancy rate on the route between Panama and Madrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Europa’s relationship with this destination goes beyond mere air operations. In 2021, a partnership with PROMTUR Panama was initiated to help position the country as a tourist destination in key European markets. Renewed in 2023, this link has resulted in a notable increase in the arrival of European travelers, as well as a significant improvement in the visibility of Panama and its many attractions on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very satisfied with the path we have followed up to this point and the enormous possibilities that lie ahead. The company, which is prepared to move forward independently by implementing a strategic plan based on expansion, sustainability and profitability, is meeting all its commitments and will continue to be a key player in connectivity between Central America and Europe,\u201d said Karim Balarezo, Air Europa’s regional director in the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Europa is considering the possibility of increasing its operations to one daily frequency. The increase in the long-haul fleet will contribute to this, with the recent addition of a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, bringing the airline’s fleet to 26 aircraft of this model and consolidating transoceanic connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
