In order to continue improving its fleet and the in-flight experience for passengers, LATAM Airlines Group<\/strong> announced Thursday that starting in September it will begin a process of renovating 24 of its Boeing 787 aircraft, with a total investment of US$ 360 million, completely refurbishing cabin interiors with new seats, in-flight entertainment and design improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renovation includes a new Premium Business cabin, with the addition of the new Recaro R7 seat (formerly CL6720) from Recaro Aircraft Seating. For the first time, travelers will have doors on their Premium Business seats, offering greater privacy, personal space and comfort, making LATAM the first airline group in South America to offer this new experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economy class seats will be completely upgraded to the latest generation of seats, ergonomically designed to provide more space and comfort. Passengers will also be able to travel more comfortably in the Economy Plus seats, which offer more foot space, greater recline, footrests and an exclusive space for luggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Premium Business seats mark a significant step forward, combining comfort, privacy and elegance. These renovations position LATAM as an industry leader, providing our passengers with an unprecedented level of comfort and an exclusive flight experience,\u201d said Paulo Miranda, LATAM Group VP Customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seats in both Premium Business and Economy will be upholstered with up to 70% recycled leather, a material already used in most of the LATAM group’s narrow body aircraft. This upholstery reduces the amount of water used in the production of this material by 87% compared to the amount required for regular leather. In addition, this material has so far prevented 21 tons of waste from being sent to landfill, according to data from the manufacturer Gen Phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economy passengers will be able to connect to in-flight entertainment via Bluetooth to enjoy, with their own headphones, the largest content library in the region, which includes more than 240 movies, 740 TV show episodes, 1,500 music tracks and exclusive content from Max, Paramount+ and Disney+, which can be viewed on the new 12-inch high-definition screens with touch technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, these aircraft will incorporate Panasonic’s Arc\u2122 interactive 3D map, where detailed information about destinations can be obtained from the air, and thus be able to discover emblematic places in different cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 24 aircraft to be retrofitted, 10 are Boeing 787-8s, which operate international and domestic flights in Chile, and 14 are Boeing 787-9s, which operate both international and domestic flights in Chile, Brazil, and Peru. The first aircraft to enter retrofit will be Boeing 787-8s and will begin flying in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complete refurbishment process of the 24 aircraft will be carried out at maintenance bases in S\u00e3o Carlos, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. It is estimated that their installation will be completed in the second half of 2026. This is because each retrofit takes between 2 to 4 months, depending on the improvements to be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
