The Latin American Superior Aviation Academy (ALAS), a nonprofit aviation school supported by Copa Airlines<\/strong>, celebrated National Pilot Day with the graduation of 27 new Panamanian commercial pilots. This event marks a milestone in the development of local talent, strengthening the country’s aeronautical sector. Notably, 11% of the graduates are women, highlighting the growth of female inclusion in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copa Airlines’ Commitment to Aeronautical Training<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Pedro Herrera, director of ALAS, expressed Copa Airlines’ commitment to education and the professional development of Panamanian pilots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“ALAS is the result of Copa Airlines’ commitment to contribute to educational advancement and specialized technical training for local talent. We are proud to celebrate today, on National Pilot Day, the achievements of these young individuals who have completed their training.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout its 20 promotions, ALAS has graduated over 250 Panamanian pilots, who now serve as first officers and captains for Copa Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry Growth and the Need for New Pilots<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Captain Bol\u00edvar Dom\u00ednguez Gonz\u00e1lez, Vice President of Flight Operations at Copa Airlines, the airline currently employs nearly 1,400 commercial pilots, 11% of whom are women. This percentage is among the highest rates of female participation in aviation worldwide. Furthermore, due to industry growth projections in Panama, it is estimated that more than 160 pilots will be needed this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ALAS: High-Quality Education at an Affordable Cost<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ALAS stands out for offering training that meets high international standards at a lower cost than the industry average, as it operates as a nonprofit institution subsidized by Copa Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, 40% of the graduates completed their studies with partial scholarships granted by Copa Airlines and the Panamanian Union of Commercial Aviators (UNPAC), facilitating access to quality education for more young Panamanians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boosting Aviation in Panama<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copa Airlines has developed a comprehensive professional training model through specialized academies for pilots, aeronautical technicians, and cabin crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, 131 students are part of the academy, 28% of whom are women, marking a significant step toward inclusion and diversity in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
