Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) <\/strong>announced this Monday the launch of its new uniform collection for the crew, designed for its 9,000 representatives. This change not only pays tribute to the airline’s Scandinavian heritage but also introduces a modern, functional, and sustainable design aligned with the company\u2019s evolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Look at the Change<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For nearly 80 years, SAS uniforms have been a symbol of trust and professionalism. With 30 million passengers per year and an increasingly diverse crew, the airline has opted for a renewal that combines modernity and tradition, ensuring a contemporary image without losing its essence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Updating the uniform policy was a significant step in the evolution of our identity as an airline. These changes reflect a more modern expression without compromising our commitment to professionalism, safety, and care,” says Pernille Ormholt Vang, Chief People Officer at SAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design with Identity and Functionality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new uniform design is the result of a collaboration between several SAS departments, aiming to create a functional, inclusive, and sustainable garment. Kristine Mayer, SAS Design Director, emphasizes that “the uniform is more than just a visual distinction: it is an essential work tool and an expression of our identity.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Features of the New Uniform<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balance between classic and modern:<\/strong> Inspired by SAS\u2019s iconic uniforms, previously designed by legendary names such as Christian Dior and Calvin Klein, the new attire combines an elegant aesthetic with premium materials and modern details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inclusivity and personal expression: <\/strong>A gender-neutral uniform has been introduced, featuring versatile garments, the option to wear sneakers, and greater freedom to display visible tattoos and piercings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability as a priority:<\/strong> Durable materials have been selected, and some elements of previous uniforms will be reused to reduce waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Functionality and adaptability: <\/strong>Designed for different roles and weather conditions, ensuring comfort and efficiency for staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Reflection of SAS\u2019s Diversity and Evolution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The uniform change is part of a broader transformation within SAS, which in recent months has implemented new appearance policies, including flexibility in wearing sneakers and the acceptance of visible tattoos and piercings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every person in our company is unique, and it is essential to create a culture where employees feel comfortable expressing their identity. Initiatives such as the gender-neutral uniform make us more relevant to the communities we serve,” states Ormholt Vang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The implementation of the new uniforms will begin in February 2025. For one year, both old and new uniforms will coexist to allow for a gradual and efficient transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this initiative, SAS not only reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability but also strengthens its image as a benchmark of Scandinavian aviation on the global stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
