Air India and Lufthansa Group<\/strong> have strengthened their strategic alliance by expanding their codeshare agreement. This new collaboration will allow travelers to enjoy enhanced connectivity between the Indian subcontinent and Europe, with the inclusion of nearly 60 new routes covering 12 cities in India and 26 in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expansion of the Agreement and New Routes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The expansion of the agreement increases the total number of codeshare routes between Air India, Lufthansa, and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) from 55 to nearly 100. Additionally, the inclusion of Austrian Airlines in the agreement adds 26 new routes, providing passengers with more options and greater convenience in their itineraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Codeshare Operated Routes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With this agreement, Air India will offer its customers access to 26 destinations in Europe and 3 in the Americas through its connecting airports in Frankfurt, Vienna, and Zurich. The Indian airline’s code will be applied to the following services operated by Lufthansa Group:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expanded Lufthansa Passenger Connectivity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Reciprocally, Lufthansa Group customers will be able to connect with Air India’s domestic services to 15 cities in the country: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Goa Mopa, Goa Dabolim, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Thiruvananthapuram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the Lufthansa Group airlines will add their codes to Air India’s international flights from Delhi and Mumbai to three destinations: Kathmandu, Melbourne, and Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greater Connectivity Between India and Europe<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Currently operated flights between India and Germany or Switzerland will also be part of the expanded agreement. For example, travelers wishing to fly between Delhi and Frankfurt will now have three daily options, two operated by Air India and one by Lufthansa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both airlines plan to progressively add more destinations to this codeshare alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benefits for Star Alliance Passengers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air India and Lufthansa Group airlines are members of Star Alliance. This means that frequent travelers will be able to continue accumulating and redeeming miles across all four carriers. Additionally, elite status passengers in the Maharaja Club and Miles & More programs will enjoy exclusive benefits such as priority services, additional baggage allowance, and access to VIP lounges at airports worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our goal is to enable our customers to travel from any corner of the world to another through Air India and its partner airlines. The expansion of our partnership with Lufthansa Group is a step in that direction, and we are delighted to take this long-standing relationship to the next level,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Commercial Director of Air India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Air India and enhance the travel experience for our joint customers. By expanding our cooperation, we will increase travel options between Europe and India and offer our passengers better access to more destinations,” commented Dieter Vranckx, Commercial Director of Lufthansa Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subject to the corresponding regulatory approvals, the codeshare flights will be progressively available through the booking channels of the participating airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
