Iberia <\/strong>announced this Wednesday a significant increase in its Madrid-San Juan, Puerto Rico route. During the 2025\/26 winter season, the airline will operate up to 11 weekly flights on this route for the first time. This growth marks an unprecedented expansion of Iberia\u2019s presence in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increased flight frequency will add 16,190 additional seats between October 2025 and March 2026, positively impacting the local economy with an estimated contribution of $32 million during fiscal year 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas L\u00f3pez Sol\u00e1s, Iberia\u2019s Director of Commercial, Customer, and Network Development & Alliances, welcomed the announcement, emphasizing Puerto Rico\u2019s importance in the airline\u2019s Latin America and Caribbean strategy. “For the second consecutive year, we are increasing our capacity on this route. Last year, we achieved a daily flight, and this new increase underscores our commitment to a market that has shown exceptional performance,” said L\u00f3pez Sol\u00e1s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Robles Cancel, a representative of the Puerto Rican government, highlighted that this expansion strengthens the island\u2019s connectivity with key European cities, benefiting both tourism and trade relations. “We take great pride in Iberia\u2019s growth in Puerto Rico. The Tourism Company\u2019s negotiations have allowed us to strengthen our presence in key markets,” he stated. He also noted that the move aligns with the administration\u2019s strategy under Governor Jenniffer Gonz\u00e1lez to boost tourism development and improve the island\u2019s air access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
