Airbus <\/strong>announced on Tuesday that Air Canada<\/strong> will be the launch customer for the A220 equipped with the Airspace cabin. This evolution promises to radically transform the onboard experience for both passengers and crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the Airspace Cabin Brings to the A220<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The A220 now joins the Airspace family, a design concept already present in other Airbus models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the most notable features of this cabin are the new Airspace XL overhead bins, which offer a 20% increase in volume and are 10% lighter. This will make handling easier for the crew and, as a result, speed up the boarding and deboarding process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, these bins can accommodate up to 19 additional suitcases in the A220-300 model, thanks to their four-frame design that supports longer and heavier items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger Comfort at the Forefront of Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Airbus prioritized not only functionality but also comfort. The cabin incorporates new lighting features, including an optional third strip of LED lights beneath the overhead bins, significantly enhancing the onboard ambiance. The A220 thus stands out as the leader in its class, offering the widest seats, the broadest aisle, and the largest windows, elevating the sense of space and well-being on short- and medium-haul flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new cabin also features a redesigned Passenger Service Unit (PSU), aligned with the Airspace concept, which improves both the aesthetics and functionality of the passenger’s immediate surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Moody, Director of Inflight Product at Air Canada, stated: “The A220 has already become a favorite among our customers, and we are thrilled to be the first to offer this evolution. The addition of larger overhead bins on our future A220s means more space for your belongings, faster boarding, and an even better onboard experience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Ingo Wuggetzer, Vice President of Cabin Marketing at Airbus, remarked: “We are very pleased to launch the A220\u2019s Airspace cabin with Air Canada. Thanks to this innovation, we deliver a consistent experience across all our platforms, bringing the comfort of a widebody aircraft to a single-aisle plane.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada currently has 65 firm orders for the A220-300 model, including its latest order. The first unit equipped with the Airspace cabin will arrive in early 2026, and this configuration is expected to become standard later that same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
