For the first time in its history, LATAM Airlines Group <\/strong>has been chosen to host the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IATA, which will take place in June 2026 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The 82nd edition of the aviation industry\u2019s most influential event will bring together approximately 1,700 global aviation leaders to discuss key strategic issues shaping the future of air transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Region Gaining Global Prominence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The return of the AGM to South America after 27 years underscores the region\u2019s growing significance in international aviation. Brazil previously hosted this event in 1947 in Petr\u00f3polis and again in 1999 in Rio. This new designation not only celebrates LATAM\u2019s trajectory but also recognizes Latin America\u2019s role as an economic driver, social connector, and promoter of sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are immensely proud and grateful that LATAM has been selected as the host group for the 2026 AGM in Brazil, Latin America\u2019s largest economy and the primary market for the LATAM group,\u201d said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Perspective: IATA\u2019s Endorsement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Willie Walsh, IATA\u2019s Director General, welcomed the choice: \u201cWe are thrilled to accept LATAM\u2019s offer to host the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro. It will be a great opportunity to reflect on the changes over two decades of development, during which the strengthening of air connectivity has successfully supported major global events like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latin American Aviation by the Numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Between 2015 and 2025, the Latin America and Caribbean region increased its available routes by 10.8%, from 3,430 to over 3,800, according to IATA and OAG Aviation. During the same period, seat capacity grew by 28.9%, and flight frequencies rose by 5.1%, climbing from 270,000 to over 284,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, air transport contributes US$240 billion to regional GDP and supports 8.3 million jobs. Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs) grew from 159.7 million in 2014 to over 481 million in 2024, reflecting aviation\u2019s essential role in the continent\u2019s integration and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the IATA AGM?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AGM is IATA\u2019s premier annual gathering, bringing together its members since 1945 to define policies and elect its board. From its initial 57 members across 31 countries, IATA has grown to represent 350 airlines worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is held each year in a different city, with a key host airline playing a central role in its organization. Previous host cities include London, Dubai, Sydney, New York, Istanbul, Madrid, and Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
