Ryanair<\/strong> announced on Tuesday the purchase of 30 spare LEAP-1B<\/strong> engines from CFM in a deal valued at $500 million based on list price. This move strengthens the group\u2019s operational capacity and aligns with its sustainability and efficiency goals as part of its ambitious growth plan leading up to 2034.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State-of-the-Art Engines for an Expanding Fleet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new LEAP-1B engines, renowned for their low fuel consumption, will be delivered over the next two years. They are intended to support the 210 Boeing 737 Gamechanger aircraft already in Ryanair\u2019s fleet, as well as future B737 MAX 10 deliveries scheduled for 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this purchase, the total number of spare engines in the airline\u2019s inventory will exceed 120, enhancing operational resilience for unforeseen events and scheduled maintenance. This strategy supports Ryanair\u2019s stated goal of operating a fleet of 800 Boeing 737 aircraft, all powered by CFM engines, to carry up to 300 million passengers annually by 2034.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael O\u2019Leary, CEO of Ryanair Group, emphasized the importance of the partnership with CFM, a joint venture between Safran and GE Aerospace. He stated: \u201cWe are pleased to further develop our long-standing partnership with CFM. Today\u2019s acquisition of 30 new LEAP-1B spare engines represents a significant $500 million investment to enhance the operational capability of our Group\u2019s airlines. These cutting-edge CFM engines reduce fuel consumption and CO\u2082 emissions per seat by up to 20% when installed on our B737 MAX fleet, further extending Ryanair\u2019s cost leadership over competitor airlines in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gael Meheust, President and CEO of CFM, also highlighted the significance of the agreement: \u201cThis new deal marks another milestone in the long and successful partnership we have built with Ryanair. We look forward to continuing to support Ryanair\u2019s substantial growth by delivering industry-leading reliability and performance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration between the two companies reinforces a strategic alliance to support the sustained and efficient growth of the Irish airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
