Beginning in 2026, LATAM Airlines Group<\/strong> will implement onboard Wi-Fi on its wide-body aircraft for long-haul flights, representing a $60 million investment. This initiative builds on the connectivity already available on short- and medium-haul flights. With this project, the airline aims to provide passengers with a more connected and modern flight experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LATAM is already known for having the largest connected fleet in Latin America, with over 250 aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi. This new implementation, which will cover long-haul routes such as Santiago-Sydney, Lima-Madrid, and S\u00e3o Paulo-London, is designed to offer high-speed, low-latency connectivity, even in remote areas of the South Pacific. Thanks to Viasat Amara technology, which combines geostationary (GEO) and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, passengers will be able to stay connected throughout the flight, whether to browse the internet, send messages, or share their experience with loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Next-Generation Connectivity Service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Wi-Fi on LATAM’s long-haul flights is not just internet access but a true transformation of the onboard experience. The agreement with satellite connectivity provider Viasat will enable the airline’s aircraft to feature a multi-orbit network that ensures high-quality, uninterrupted, and globally available connectivity. This innovation not only benefits passengers but also optimizes aircraft operations by enabling real-time communication between the crew and ground teams, data transmission for predictive aircraft maintenance, and route optimization through the cockpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group, emphasized that this initiative reflects the airline’s vision of constant evolution. The implementation of onboard Wi-Fi is just one of many steps LATAM is taking to enhance its customers’ experience. This project complements other advancements, such as the retrofit program for all wide-body fleet cabins, which includes the introduction of new Business Suites designed to offer passengers greater comfort and personalization during their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LATAM Play: Entertainment for Everyone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Wi-Fi service is also complemented by the LATAM Play platform, which consolidates all onboard entertainment and connectivity systems in one place. Passengers will have access to over 300 movies, more than 1,000 TV series episodes, over 2,000 music tracks, and children’s content. Additionally, LATAM has secured agreements with leading streaming platforms like Disney+, HBO Max, and Paramount+ to provide world-class entertainment during flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this investment in technology and connectivity, LATAM aims to enhance its passengers’ experience and solidify its position as a regional leader in aviation innovation. The airline is demonstrating that the future of air travel is not just about comfort but also about constant connectivity, no matter how far one is from their destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
