United Airlines and JetBlue Airway<\/strong>s asked the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on Thursday to dismiss a complaint filed by Spirit Airlines <\/strong>against their proposed partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both airlines argued that the allegations of reduced competition were “fiction” and added: “Blue Sky will maintain JetBlue\u2019s independence and enhance its competitiveness, ensuring JetBlue can continue to grow and compete as an independent airline.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “Blue Sky” alliance, announced on May 29, 2025, was designed to allow United and JetBlue to collaborate without sacrificing their rivalry. In an industry where airlines seek to optimize resources and improve passenger experience, this partnership is positioned as a strategy to sustain competition without excessive market consolidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike other alliances blocked due to antitrust concerns\u2014such as those attempted by JetBlue with American Airlines and Spirit Airlines\u2014the “Blue Sky” alliance includes features intended to avoid such issues.
