Canadian airline <\/em>WestJet <\/em><\/strong>announced on Monday that it will expand its services from Winnipeg during the 2025\/2026 winter season, introducing a new route to Liberia, Costa Rica, and increasing flight frequencies to Canc\u00fan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Route to Liberia, Costa Rica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the standout additions to WestJet\u2019s 2025\/2026 schedule is the new non-stop route between Winnipeg and Liberia, Costa Rica. This weekly flight, launching on December 19, 2025, marks the airline\u2019s first direct connection between Winnipeg and a Central American destination. This move underscores WestJet\u2019s commitment to offering more options for travelers seeking sun and beach getaways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhanced Connectivity from Winnipeg<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new Liberia service strengthens WestJet\u2019s robust network from Winnipeg, which will feature 23 non-stop routes during the winter season. These flights will cover 15 destinations across Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States, providing travelers in the region with easier and more convenient access to popular vacation spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the airline is boosting flight frequencies to two high-demand Mexican destinations: Canc\u00fan and Puerto Vallarta. Starting October 26, 2025, flights to these locations will see a significant increase\u20149% more flights to Canc\u00fan and 11% more to Puerto Vallarta compared to the previous season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Weatherill, WestJet\u2019s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, noting that the new Liberia route reflects the airline\u2019s dedication to serving Manitoba travelers with convenient and affordable winter vacation options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Travelers departing from Winnipeg expect non-stop options to key destinations, and our 2025\/2026 winter schedule delivers on those expectations,” said Weatherill. This expansion further solidifies WestJet\u2019s position as the preferred airline for those seeking sun destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
