The International Air Transport Association (IATA)<\/strong> released global passenger traffic data for September 2025<\/strong>, showing sustained demand growth driven by the dynamism of the international market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall Growth and Strong International Performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), grew 3.6% compared to September 2024. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), increased by 3.7%, while the global load factor remained solid at 83.4%, just 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growth was led by the international segment, which increased by 5.1% year-on-year, with a similar capacity expansion (+5.2%) and a load factor of 83.6%. In contrast, domestic demand grew by only 0.9%, with a capacity increase of 1.1% and a load factor of 83.0%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The strong performance of international traffic drove 90% of September’s total growth. Airlines are preparing for a strong year-end close, despite the ongoing constraints caused by supply chain issues,” highlighted Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regional Performance: Asia-Pacific and Middle East Lead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The report details positive growth across all regions, with Asia-Pacific and the Middle East at the forefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asia-Pacific<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines in the region recorded a 7.4% increase in demand and a 6.1% growth in capacity, with a load factor of 83.3%, 1.0 percentage point higher than the previous year. Intra-Asian traffic, particularly between China and Japan, was the main driver of the increase, with a 9.4% rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

European airlines reported a 4.0% increase in demand and a 4.4% increase in capacity, with a load factor of 85.6%, just 0.3 points lower than in 2024. The region maintains the highest load factor globally (86.2%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North America<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

International traffic for North American airlines grew by 2.5%, but capacity increased by 4.3%, reducing the load factor to 82.9% (-1.5 points). The North America-Asia corridor showed weak growth of 0.9%, while the North America-South America corridor recovered with a 1.1% improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middle East<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines in this region experienced a 6.3% increase in demand and a 6.2% increase in capacity, maintaining a stable load factor of 81.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latin America and the Caribbean<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

International traffic grew by 5.3%, with capacity 6.8% higher than the previous year and a load factor of 83.3%, representing a decrease of 1.2 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Africa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The year-on-year growth was also 5.3% in demand, with a capacity expansion of 5.1% and a load factor of 74.7%, 0.1 points above the same month in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domestic Markets: Brazil Stands Out, US Declines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In domestic markets, traffic increased by 0.9%, with a slight decrease in the load factor (-0.1 points) due to a capacity expansion of 1.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brazil again led the way with double-digit growth, consolidating its position as the most dynamic domestic market. In contrast, the US market deepened its decline with a 1.7% contraction and recorded the weakest load factor among the major domestic markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook for the End of 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Airlines are approaching the last quarter of the year with moderate optimism. Flight schedules for November point to a 3% expansion compared to the same period last year. Although supply chain problems continue to affect operational capacity, load factors remain robust, reflecting sustained demand in global air transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
