Boeing and Air Astana<\/strong> announced the signing of an agreement for the acquisition of up to 15 787 Dreamliner <\/strong>aircraft, in what will be the largest aircraft purchase in the history of Kazakhstan’s national carrier. This strategic decision will allow the airline to modernize its fleet and expand its network of international destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The order includes the addition of 787-9s, which will join three more units to be delivered through lessors, bringing the potential total fleet of this type to 18 aircraft. With a capacity for 303 passengers, the 787-9 will be key to strengthening the company’s long-haul operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana, highlighted: “Air Astana is strategically committed to enhancing its service capabilities from Central Asia and the Caucasus towards Asia, Europe, and the rest of the world over the next decade. The arrival of the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner next year will mark the start of this exciting development phase.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Air Astana operates three Boeing 767s on routes connecting Kazakhstan with Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The incorporation of the 787-9 will allow for increased capacity on existing routes and the opening of new connections to North America. Furthermore, according to Boeing, this order will support over 20,000 jobs in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somon Air’s First Wide-Body Aircraft Order<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of the same announcement, Boeing confirmed the commitment from Somon Air, the national airline of Tajikistan, to acquire up to 14 aircraft: four 787-9 Dreamliners and ten 737-8 MAXs. This agreement represents the largest fleet investment in the company’s history and marks the carrier’s first order for wide-body aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somon Air currently operates six 737-800 aircraft, connecting Tajikistan with 25 destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. With the new order, the airline aims to expand its international network from Dushanbe and renew its single-aisle fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air, stated: “We are pleased to announce our commitment to expanding our fleet with the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX. This significant investment not only marks our first wide-body order but also reinforces our dedication to providing exceptional service and greater comfort to our passengers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreements were signed during the C5+1 Summit, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of this US-led diplomatic platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
