This advancement eliminates the need for repetitive physical document checks at various airport touchpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most significant milestones of these PoCs was the demonstration that system interoperability is sufficiently advanced to support travel involving multiple airlines and various digital wallets. The solutions tested included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Apple Wallet<\/strong> (for U.S. passport holders).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Google ID Pass<\/strong> (for U.S. and UK citizens).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digi Yatra<\/strong>, India\u2019s national digital identity program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other wallets<\/strong> such as SITA Wallet, Air New Zealand Wallet, and open-source solutions like Multipaz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three Key Trials for the Future of the Sector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To reach these conclusions, three pilot projects were carried out to analyze different aspects of technological integration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Connectivity on Transfer Flights:<\/strong> On a route involving Japan Airlines (Tokyo Haneda \u2013 Hong Kong \u2013 European Airport), passengers shared their identity data in advance. This allowed for biometric processing at both departure and transfer points using &#8220;touch-and-go&#8221; solutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Direct Airline Management:<\/strong> On the Auckland \u2013 Hong Kong route, Air New Zealand allowed passengers to use their own digital wallets during booking and check-in. Willie Walsh, IATA\u2019s Director General, stressed that the industry has already proven that digital identity is both secure and efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor travelers to benefit from this modernization, governments must accelerate efforts to issue and accept Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs)\u2014secure digital versions of passports,\u201d Walsh stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the organization, governments must focus on three critical areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prepare to Issue:<\/strong> Establish the legal and technical foundations for DTCs within national programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be Ready to Accept:<\/strong> Ensure that border and visa systems can verify credentials issued by other states.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan at Scale:<\/strong> Collaborate with international bodies to guarantee that the system is globally interoperable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The results obtained by IATA, with the support of technology providers such as Amadeus, NEC, SITA, SICPA, Hopae, and Branchspace, make it clear that the technology is mature. The use of international standards (ISO, OpenID, and W3C) and the IATA Contactless Travel Directory ensures a robust security framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step for commercial aviation is no longer a matter of technical possibility, but of regulatory integration. The transition toward a model where passengers share their data securely and with consent before arriving at the airport promises to reduce queues, enhance security, and transform the operational
