Emirates <\/strong>has officially commenced construction on its new engineering complex in Dubai South, a $5.1 billion infrastructure project destined to become the world’s most modern and advanced Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. This strategic investment consolidates the global aviation capacity and infrastructure leadership of both Dubai and the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Strategic Milestone for Global Aviation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum (Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group), Sir Tim Clark (President of Emirates Airline), His Excellency Khalifa Al Zaffin (Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South), and Dai Hegen (Chairman of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC)). The project is being developed by CRCC as the main contractor, with Artelia appointed as project consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This facility strengthens Emirates Engineering’s vertical integration strategy by bringing skills, infrastructure, parts production, and specialized capabilities under one roof. Furthermore, the project aligns directly with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing the city’s position as an aviation hub of excellence and a global economic engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infrastructure is located within the vicinity of Al Maktoum International Airport, which is projected to become the world’s largest airport upon completion. The project will serve as a blueprint for bilateral cooperation and trade between China and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unprecedented Scale and Technical Capabilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new engineering complex will span an area of 1.1 million square meters, making it one of the largest buildings in the world by volume and the largest steel structure in the entire Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most prominent feature of this mega-hub is that it will house the world’s only hangar complex capable of simultaneously servicing 28 widebody aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
