Aerom\u00e9xico <\/strong>has announced its intention to operate a new direct route between Mexico City International Airport and Milan-Malpensa <\/strong>starting in March next year. This connection will strengthen the carrier’s transatlantic connectivity and position it as the only airline in the country connecting the Mexican capital with two of Italy’s most influential cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategic Expansion in the Italian Market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The addition of Milan represents a key step in bolstering the international network of Mexico’s flag carrier. The airline currently operates flights to Rome-Fiumicino International Airport (FCO), meaning the addition of the Lombard hub will consolidate its presence in Southern Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger traffic between both nations has shown an upward trend. Last year, Italy ranked as the 13th source market for tourists traveling to Mexico, recording a total of 118,242 visitors, representing a 13.7% year-over-year increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the scheduled passenger market between Mexico and Italy also includes Italian carrier Neos Air, which operates a route between Milan and Canc\u00fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the announcement, Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aerom\u00e9xico, noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are thrilled to add the city of Milan to our international network\u2014a destination that will allow us to strengthen cultural, commercial, and business ties between Mexico and Italy. We will become our country’s only airline to directly connect Mexico City with two of Italy’s most iconic destinations, providing greater opportunities to meet growing demand from both business and leisure travelers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long-Haul Fleet and Expansion in Europe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The route will be served by Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the most modern and efficient widebody equipment in the company’s fleet, optimized for ultra-long-haul services. The airline recently took delivery of its 25th aircraft of this type, boosting operational capacity for its international expansion plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the launch of this service, the airline will expand its European footprint to seven destinations and 10 routes, broadening intercontinental connectivity options for both corporate and leisure markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final schedules and frequencies are currently subject to required regulatory and governmental approvals. Detailed timetable information and ticket sales will be announced once the necessary regulatory authorizations are secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
