An Amazon Prime Air <\/strong>cargo aircraft, operated by 21 Air, suffered a severe runway overrun shortly before 2:00 p.m. this Sunday while landing at Miami International Airport (MIA). The accident left at least five people dead and five others critically injured, local authorities confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After overshooting Runway 30, the aircraft\u2014a Boeing 767-300F\u2014crossed an adjacent perimeter roadway and collided with several ground vehicles before catching fire. The wreckage came to rest near a parking lot serving an Amazon fulfillment center and other neighboring commercial facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 200 firefighters responded to the scene. Raied Jadallah, Chief of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, reported that multiple victims were trapped inside and beneath the impacted vehicles, requiring complex extrication operations. Three of the injured remain in critical condition. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava commended the rapid response of emergency personnel, who arrived on scene within seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to ADS-B flight tracking data provided by Flightradar24, the aircraft was tracking at a ground speed of 112 knots (207 km\/h) as it exited the paved surface of the runway. Flightradar24 also indicated that light thunderstorms with gusty wind conditions were present in the airport vicinity during the approach and rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NTSB and FAA Investigation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The probable cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the federal agency tasked with investigating all civil aviation accidents in the United States, has assumed the role of lead investigative agency and will provide further details during a press briefing scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aviation safety experts noted that surveillance footage of the landing roll will be critical to establishing whether the Boeing 767-300 touched down within the designated touchdown zone (TDZ), or whether operational factors or adverse weather contributed to the runway excursion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a precautionary measure, airport authorities initially instituted a full ground stop and closed all runways before reopening two of them to resume limited operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
