Factoring in this segment brings cumulative traffic to 15,953,929 travelers, sustaining the 15% year-on-year growth rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">August Operational Performance: Strong Transfer Volumes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During August, the hub handled 2,136,052 passenger movements (rising to 2,145,906 when including infants under two). This translated to a daily average of roughly 68,905 passenger movements, with peak traffic volumes recorded on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tocumen\u2019s role as a major international connecting hub was underscored by its August traffic breakdown:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Transfer traffic:<\/strong> 74% of the monthly total\u2014representing 1,587,692 passengers\u2014consisted of connecting travelers bound for onward destinations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inbound traffic:<\/strong> 277,653 arriving passengers disembarked in Panama City.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Outbound traffic:<\/strong> 270,707 departing passengers originated from Panama.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Network Connectivity and Top Origin &amp; Destination Markets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding its route network, Tocumen offered nonstop service to 93 international destinations and one domestic destination throughout August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first eight months of the year, the top five origin and destination (O&amp;D) city pairs by passenger volume were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bogota, Colombia:<\/strong> 799,639 passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Miami, United States:<\/strong> 632,473 passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Punta Cana, Dominican Republic:<\/strong> 583,050 passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>San Jose, Costa Rica:<\/strong> 580,980 passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medellin, Colombia:<\/strong> 554,599 passengers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growth in Flight Operations and Cargo Volumes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The surge in passenger demand was mirrored by heightened airside movements. Between January and August 2026, the airport logged 121,521 aircraft movements, marking an 11% increase (up by 12,261 flight movements compared to 2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The year-to-date breakdown of aircraft movements was as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Commercial passenger flights:<\/strong> 90%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dedicated cargo flights:<\/strong> 6%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>General aviation:<\/strong> 3%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other services (technical stops, ad-hoc charters, and military operations):<\/strong> 1%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In August alone, 14 commercial passenger airlines and 14 cargo carriers operated at the airport, averaging approximately 508 aircraft movements per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the logistics front, Tocumen processed 171,320 metric tons of air freight between January and August. This represents an 8% gain (12,087 additional metric tons) over the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the results, Jose Ruiz Blanco, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The performance recorded over the first eight months of 2026 confirms Tocumen International Airport\u2019s strategic positioning as Panama\u2019s primary gateway and one of the region&#8217;s leading air connectivity hubs. Sustained expansion across passenger numbers, aircraft movements, and air cargo highlights the resilience and competitiveness of our airport infrastructure, which continues to drive tourism, stimulate economic activity, and bridge Panama with North America, South America, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. These figures reinforce our commitment to enhancing capacity, operational efficiency, and service standards under a clear strategic vision: to cement Tocumen as an increasingly modern, competitive hub
