Low-cost carrier Ryanair <\/strong>has warned it may be forced to freeze employee wages in response to a surging fuel bill that upcoming airfare increases will not fully offset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rising cost of unhedged jet fuel directly impacted Ryanair’s bottom line during its key July\u2013September quarter. The airline posted a 6% decline in net profit to \u20ac1.61 billion ($1.8 billion), a figure that nevertheless remained in line with market consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Leary pointed out that escalating energy costs will force European carriers to raise airfares by double-digit percentages next year. However, he voiced skepticism regarding Ryanair’s own ability to push through the 20% fare hike needed to fully neutralize an estimated \u20ac2 billion (33%) spike in its fuel bill for the fiscal year ending March 2028, based on current forward curve pricing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
