{"id":98997,"date":"2020-08-22T20:33:33","date_gmt":"2020-08-22T20:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/?p=98997"},"modified":"2020-08-22T20:33:39","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T20:33:39","slug":"boeing-testing-hand-held-uv-wand-to-sanitize-cockpits-cabins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviacionaldia.com\/en\/2020\/08\/boeing-testing-hand-held-uv-wand-to-sanitize-cockpits-cabins.html","title":{"rendered":"Boeing testing hand-held UV wand to sanitize cockpits, cabins."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Boeing <\/strong>said on Friday it is developing a hand-held wand that emits ultraviolet light to neutralize bacteria and viruses, part of a suite of methods to disinfect flight deck surfaces and controls, as well as surfaces throughout the cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerns by airline workers and passengers about the spread of COVID-19 has fueled a rush by companies to roll out new technology for aircraft sanitization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<!-- ultimo -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6613542170464175\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"6526913898\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>The wand would eliminate the need for using alcohol or other disinfectants that could damage sensitive electronic equipment, Rae Lutters, chief engineer for Boeing\u2019s ecoDemonstrator program, told a media briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing is looking at licensing the technology and hiring third-party companies in the fall to begin manufacturing the wands for commercial use, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing has been working on the technology with 13 different airlines. Kevin Callahan, a Boeing technical fellow leading testing of the wand prototype, cited \u201cvery strong interest\u201d as carriers think about restoring confidence in flying as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under heightened cleaning practices, many airlines have started using electrostatic disinfectants, which kill viruses on contact, as well as an anti-microbial spray that forms a coating for 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing is also testing an anti-microbial coating for aircraft surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Eric M.
