Boeing said Tuesday that it detected a third manufacturing defect in the 787 Dreamliner and “will take the time to rigorously examine” all the devices that have not yet been delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new inspections should “affect the delivery schedule of the 787 in the short term,” the manufacturer said in a message to the AFP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defect that was made public on Tuesday is located in the horizontal stabilizer, in the tail of the plane, said a spokesman for the manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new problem comes after Monday’s announcement that the company had identified two faults in the manufacture of the joint of a part of the fuselage of some 787. “In combination, they result in a condition that does not meet our design standards,” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the AP news agency, during production of the horizontal stabilizer at a Boeing plant, some parts were fastened too tightly, resulting in inadequate spacing between sections. Boeing does not believe this is an immediate safety problem, but it could lead to premature aging of the fuselage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
