This Tuesday, at a press conference together with the Colombian Embassy in Mexico and the Ministry of Tourism of the Federal Government, Viva Aerobus announced the launch of its two new international routes to Colombia: Medellin – Mexico City and Medellin – Cancun.
The Medellin – Mexico City route will begin operations on April 8 with a daily flight at prices starting at USD $24 for a single trip, plus the Airport Use Fee (TUA). The Medellin – Cancun route will start flying on the same date with three frequencies per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and tickets starting at USD $30, also for a single trip, plus TUA.
→ Viva Aerobus transported more than 15.2 million passengers in 2021.
The flights will be operated with 186-passenger Airbus A320 aircraft that are part of the youngest fleet in Mexico and the third youngest fleet in North America, with an average age of 5 years. It is estimated that these routes will generate a flow of 180 thousand passengers per year between both parties.
“Viva Aerobus comes to strengthen Mexico’s air connectivity with foreign countries. In the task of attracting more foreign exchange, diversifying markets and regionalizing tourism, air connectivity is a key element and with these new flights by Viva Aerobus, a 100% Mexican company with 142 routes to 59 domestic and international destinations, this task will be strengthened, as well as the promotion of Mexico abroad,” said Miguel Torruco Marqués, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism.

This Viva Aerobus offer in Colombia is strategically designed to serve one of the most dynamic air markets in Latin America due to the high flow of passengers traveling between Mexico and Colombia. On the one hand, according to the most recent information from the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, in 2021, Colombia positioned itself as the third country that sent the most foreign visitors by air to Mexico, only behind the United States and Canada; and above countries such as Brazil, Spain and Venezuela. In 2021, the entry of more than 454 thousand Colombian passengers was recorded, which represented 3.2% of the total number of international air visitors to Mexico.
Viva Aerobus broke into the South American market in 2021 with the inauguration of its flights to Bogota from/to Cancun and Mexico City; and, with today’s announcement, it now has four routes to Colombia in less than a year since its arrival in this country.
As part of the benefits offered to travelers on these routes, under the existing interline agreement between the Colombian airline Viva Air and Viva Aerobus, passengers can purchase tickets to fly these two routes from the website or applications of both airlines with access to the itineraries of both companies and thus combine their journey with the most convenient option.
