Technical problem forces Qantas A330 pilots to shut down an engine in mid-flight
A technical problem forced the pilots of a Qantas Airbus A330-200 to shut down one of the engines while on a flight Monday night between the cities of Melbourne and Perth, the Australian airline confirmed.
Flight QF781 “experienced a problem with one of its engines last night as it approached Perth,” an airline spokeswoman said in a statement sent to EFE.

Therefore, the pilots, following established procedures for this type of incident, “manually shut down the engine and requested a priority landing” in Perth, southwest Australia, where the aircraft landed safely and passengers disembarked normally.
The Qantas spokeswoman also insisted that the airline’s aircraft are designed “to operate safely with a single engine.”
However, the incident caused concern among passengers who heard a “big bang” and a tremor on the left side of the plane, Australian Darrell Weekes, who was on board the flight, told an ABC public broadcaster in the Oceanic country.
