Air China, the flagship airline of the Asian giant, announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 60 A320neo aircraft, in a deal worth approximately $9.5 billion at list prices. The contract includes the company itself and one of its subsidiaries, according to a statement released by the airline.
The announcement confirms the renewed momentum of Chinese airlines to modernize and expand their short- and medium-haul fleets, within a context of progressive recovery in air traffic and long-term operational capacity planning.
Deliveries Scheduled Between 2028 and 2032
According to information presented by Air China in a notification to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the 60 Airbus A320neo aircraft will be delivered in stages between 2028 and 2032. This delivery schedule allows the airline to plan ahead for the integration of new aircraft and the gradual retirement of older models.
The A320neo has become one of the most in-demand aircraft on the market thanks to its improvements in efficiency and performance, making it especially attractive for high-density regional and domestic operations.
Clear Signal of Confidence in the Narrow-Body Market
The announcement reflects a clear commitment to single-aisle aircraft and to long-term fleet growth planning. These orders, formalized through stock exchange announcements, show a coordinated strategy to meet future passenger demand and strengthen competitiveness in the domestic and regional market.
With this agreement, Air China joins a trend that solidifies the Airbus A320neo as a key piece in fleet renewal across Asia, further reinforcing the European manufacturer’s presence in one of the world’s most significant aviation markets.
