Delta and Federal Investigators Probe Unauthorized Wi-Fi Network on Las Vegas-Atlanta Flight
Delta Air Lines is investigating the temporary activation of an unauthorized Wi-Fi network aboard a flight operating between Las Vegas and Atlanta, alongside aviation regulators and federal law enforcement authorities, Bloomberg reported.
Precautionary Disabling Aboard Boeing 757 Aircraft
During Delta Air Lines Flight 591, operated by a Boeing 757, the crew detected the brief presence and activation of an unauthorized Wi-Fi network. In accordance with standard precautionary protocols, the flight crew deactivated the inflight connectivity system for approximately 30 minutes.
Despite the service interruption, the carrier clarified that operational safety was never compromised, nor was an emergency declared with Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Morgan Durrant, a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines, confirmed via an emailed statement that the airline is actively coordinating with aviation regulators and federal law enforcement officials to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident:
“There was no breach or ‘hacking’ of Delta systems. Flight safety was never in question, and no aircraft operational systems were affected. We are conducting a thorough investigation to gather all facts, a process that will take time.”
Incident Context and Federal Involvement
The flight took place on Monday, following the weekend when the city of Las Vegas hosted the DEFCON convention, a globally recognized event widely considered the world’s largest cybersecurity and hacking conference.
The FBI, through spokespersons at its Atlanta field office, confirmed it is aware of reports regarding a “possible Wi-Fi network-related incident” aboard the aircraft.
Delta Air Lines will continue analyzing the technical logs from Flight 591 in coordination with regulatory agencies and the FBI to establish the nature and source of the signal detected aboard the Boeing 757. Investigations are expected to conclude once cybersecurity and civil aviation experts compile all necessary analytical data.
