To mark its 107th anniversary, KLM has announced that it will begin offering free high-speed Wi-Fi on its intercontinental flights starting in mid-2027. This initiative expands the complimentary in-flight connectivity service the carrier has already rolled out across its European network, extending the digital onboard experience across its entire long-haul fleet.
The phased rollout will cover all cabin classes, providing passengers with unlimited internet access throughout their journey.
Starlink Technology: Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Connectivity
To deliver the service, the airline has selected Starlink, whose low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation provides fast, reliable, low-latency broadband coverage across oceans, landmasses, and remote routes.

This infrastructure will allow passengers and crew to connect from gate to gate, supporting data-intensive activities such as:
- Web browsing and email exchange.
- Music streaming.
- Live streaming of movies and series.
- In-flight online gaming.
“We are fulfilling a long-standing wish for our passengers: fast, free Wi-Fi on intercontinental flights starting in mid-2027. This will allow travelers to stay connected even while crossing the ocean. The rollout of free Wi-Fi is part of KLM’s ongoing commitment to delivering a comfortable and digitally connected travel experience,” said Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM.
Access via the Flying Blue Program
Access to the complimentary Wi-Fi service will be available to members of the Flying Blue loyalty program:
- Enrolled passengers: Can connect by logging in directly with their Flying Blue credentials.
- New users: Passengers who are not yet members will be able to join prior to departure or mid-flight via the onboard portal to immediately activate free connectivity on equipped aircraft.
Continuation of Onboard Connectivity Strategy
This initiative builds on KLM’s connectivity rollout launched earlier this year, when the carrier began offering free, unlimited internet access across most of its European fleet, establishing itself as one of the first European airlines to introduce this level of passenger connectivity as standard.
